Back Pocket - Granite Belt - Queensland - Sublime Wine

A single acre (0.4 hectare) of old shiraz vines was all that remained on this long established mixed fruit farm when purchased in 1997. The grapes were sold to other wineries until 2003 when Back Pocket began producing its own wines.

The name comes from the size and location of the vineyard – a small pocket of land (neighbouring properties are large) in the foothills of Severnlea, on Back Creek. Mal Baisden and Lel Doon have cemented the small vineyard’s wine future with further shiraz (0.8 hectare), tempranillo (0.5 hectare), graciano (0.4 hectare) and fiano (0.4 hectare) plantings, and a strong desire to make wines of character solely from Back Pocket grapes. The wines are available online, by mail-order, and at selected farmers markets in Brisbane. You will also find them at events and festivals throughout south-east Queensland.
